A High Performing Specialist Academy for Technology & Applied Learning

Educational Visits

Educational off site activities form a major part of the Vocational Education programme.

Students have the opportunity to visit a large number of places, taking part in lectures and role-plays.  These will help in the completion of their assignments.  Some visits are mandatory to complete the course.

Educational visits are an integral part of BTEC courses.   The department has an ethos of ‘learning by doing’.

Travel students may have the opportunity to take part in cabin crew training.  They will visit a coastal resort, a countryside area and a cultural city.  These will form the basis of their assignment work.

Students studying Business will visit working businesses which will enable them to complete their  assignments.  These may include The Hogs Back Brewery, Go Ape and Thorpe Park.  In the second year of the course students will be expected to organise their own event.  In the past these have included raft building and high ropes adventure days.

Health and Social Care and Children’s Care, Learning and Development students will visit a number of care settings including schools, nurseries, elderly care homes and other social and care settings.

The Department has also successfully run residential trips to Paris, Disneyland Paris, Barcelona, New York and Washington.  In addition, several of the Vocational Education team also lead the cultural exchange visit to China which all students in Years 11, 12 and 13 have an opportunity to attend.
