Collingwood College: Contextual Information for University Admissions
Collingwood College is a mixed comprehensive school with 1670 students. The intake comes from both the social housing in the immediate neighbourhood and the more affluent areas of Surrey Heath. Students pursue academic and vocational subjects in the Sixth Form which currently has 208 students.
Students follow Programmes of Study consisting of A Levels and BTEC qualifications ranging from Level 3 Certificate, Subsidiary Diploma to Diploma. A higher proportion of students at Collingwood follow mixed programmes of study in comparison to other education providers nationally. From September 2016, the majority of students at Collingwood studied 3 subjects as opposed to 4 in prior years. From September 2017, all A Levels subjects are delivered as 2 year linear qualifications with an internal Pre-Public Examination at the end of the first year.
We have significantly reduced our post-16 curriculum offer over the last 4 academic years in response to funding and curriculum changes. In 2017/18 we will offer 13 fewer courses than in 2013 which has primarily affected minority subjects. Historically, Collingwood A Level students have an average GCSE prior attainment score that is lower than the national average. The cohort profile based on GCSE averages, typically reflects smaller, top and middle band representation with larger numbers in the lower band.
