Collingwood Celebrates Diversity
The week commencing Monday 17 April we celebrated Diversity Week at Collingwood College!
The whole school was involved, with starters in lessons celebrating diversity, activities in the library and an assembly programme focussing on respecting others. Students were invited to complete a forms quiz with an example of how they showed respect that day, to others or even to themselves. Look out for next week’s newsletter to see how our students showed respect to others.
There were also activities and a fantastic display in the library featuring books from a range of authors and covering a diverse range of topics such as the experience of people from different race, ethnic minority, LGBTQ+, disability and neuro-diverse communities.
A cake sale run by our Sixth Form students also took place on Friday raising money for charity. Many thanks to Seren Clayton, Libby Evans, Serenity Cherry, Connor Doherty and James Doyle who supported the cake sale and Innovate Catering for their kind donation of baked goods. In Barossa canteen our caterers once again offered an exciting menu last week. A different cuisine was on offer each day, exploring different cultures from around the world.
Over the course of the week Table Talks took place once again where a member of staff shared their own experience of diversity, equity and inclusion. In addition to this, our Sixth Form team shared what Culture and Diversity means to them and their responses will be on display in the Sixth Form common room.
The week ended with Eid on Friday. Happy Eid to all those celebrating! Please be aware there are facilities for students to say their Dhuhr prayers during lunch times. Please see Mrs Valu in Barossa Studio if you would like to access this facility.
